Why did you choose to work for OCE?

After viewing many schools for teaching positions, I felt specially drawn to OCE. It was apparent through the interview process that they pick their staff very carefully and from that, I felt confident that I would have interesting and skilled co-workers. Furthermore, the learning system of the company played a big part in me choosing OCE. It seemed that they valued their teachers by providing a strong support system for new teachers. This was later proven the longer I taught here. OCE also has a feedback system which is very beneficial for growth and development as a teacher.  OCE also gives the chance to view and observe other teachers classes just to get a glimpse of a variety of teaching methods.

What do you think is special about OCE?

I have taught at four other schools and I have never felt so instantly comfortable as I did at OCE. I believe that all the wonderful staff who work at OCE can take credit for that. I feel privileged to join such a welcoming and friendly group of teachers and staff. The working environment and just the over all atmosphere of OCE makes anyone love working here. Aside from that, it is great to work with people who come from a wide variety of backgrounds and every one seems to bring a different personality to the whole that is OCE.

What do you enjoy about teaching?

I chose to become a teacher after working at different English cafes around Tokyo. I was surprised at the joy I found in teaching at cafes but I noticed there were many things I needed to learn to be able to teach English efficiently – which is when I decided to study and acquire my English teaching certificate. I find much satisfaction in improving my students English and at the same time having an enjoyable time together.

When did you make a difference in a student’s life?

I am new to teaching adult students and this is my second month at OCE. However, after viewing other teachers at OCE it is easy to see the relationship that has been built between the students and teacher. Even beginner students seemed to feel comfortable to speak in class and I feel excited to have many classes in which I can create a trusting atmosphere, and have them long enough to watch them progress and little by little become proficient English speakers.
