Step 4 – Challenges

Challenges – Teammate

We make a big effort to make One Coin English welcoming and supportive. Our team does not over hire teachers and staff because we want you to be fully booked. We all invest time and emotion in your development because we want you to leave us with much more knowledge and skills than you joined our company.

Note: over hiring is the practice of hiring more than enough teachers with the expectation that those who do not receive bookings will leave on their own accord

In return, we are looking for teachers who do not make frequent schedule changes. If you want to take frequent vacations or change your work days with 100% complete freedom, we are not the place for you.

Note: we have many University students who work as teachers and we understand the need to change your schedule every 3 months.

Challenges – Time Off
  • We require teachers to give 22 days advanced notice for time off.
  • We do want someone who takes time off and does not cover around an equal amount
  • Teachers must find a substitute teacher for days they want to take off.
    • Teachers in OCE frequently cover for one another.
  • The maximum vacation length is 16 days in a row.
    • This includes school holidays / national holidays
Challenges – Earning Your Lessons

We expect all new teachers to make an effort to improve their teaching skills. 90% of teachers receive 3 hours per shift and popular teachers average 3.8 hours per four hour shift. You are only paid for the hours you are booked.

We are there to support you. You will also be provided 8 hours of paid training in Tokyo. You are free to ask questions to your head teacher and observe lessons by other teachers.

Final Note

Thank you for taking the time to read more about us. We are a group of caring people and we are looking for other caring people to join our team to make something great.
